Technical Assistance Paper: Guidelines for the Use, Documentation, Reporting, and Monitoring of Restraint and Seclusion with Students with Disabilities by the Florida DOE

Summary:
This document provides guidance regarding the use, documenting, reporting, and
monitoring of restraint and seclusion with students with disabilities in school districts,
including (a) when restraint and/or seclusion might be used, (b) considerations when
selecting a training program for restraint, (c) what should be documented, (d) parent
notification and reporting, and (e) monitoring use. It also contains information about
the recently amended statute, section 1003.573, Florida Statutes, Use of restraint and seclusion on students with disabilities.
