Summary:
This document provides guidance for the use, documentation, reporting, and monitoring of seclusion and restraint with students with disabilities in school districts, including (a) when seclusion and/or restraint might be used, (b) who should use seclusion and/or restraint, (c) the type of training needed for the correct usage of restraint, (d) considerations when selecting a training program for restraint, (e) what should be documented, (f) parent notification and reporting, and (g) monitoring their use. It also contains information about a recently created statute—section 1003.573, Florida Statutes, Use of seclusion and restraint on students with disabilities.
