Teachers get training to deal with student behavior (Nov 29, 2017, Tuscaloosa News)- More than 50 teachers from across Alabama gathered Tuesday at the Tuscaloosa Career and Technology Academy for the last day of training from state education officials Tuesday on Positive Behavior Interventions Supports, or PBIS.
Alabama committee looks at how to reduce suspensions, expulsions in schools (Sep 2017, Montgomery Advertiser)- If a student misbehaves, instead of punishing them, we want to correct the behavior but at the same time go beneath the surface to treat the underlying problem and therefore reduce the need for office referrals and suspensions.
Baltimore school suspensions fell last year (Oct 24, 2017, The Baltimore Sun)- Suspensions in Baltimore city schools dipped last year as the district continued to reform its disciplinary practices to reduce the rate of students getting kicked out of school. The nearly 20 percent drop comes as city schools CEO Sonja Santelises has put renewed emphasis on positive behavioral interventions.
