Using a Regional PBIS Support System to Foster Positive Learning Environments and Reduce Restraint & Seclusion in Schools
This regional demonstration describes how an intermediate school district (ISD) servicing a large county in the Midwest supported the implementation of a multi-tiered positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS) framework to help schools reduce their use of restraint and seclusion and foster positive learning environments. This brief (a) highlights the regional infrastructure developed to provide and sustain PBIS at the local level, (b) demonstrates how supports were quickly pivoted in response to new state legislation, and (c) describes high-impact PBIS practices found to be associated with creating positive learning environments and reductions in the use of restraint and seclusion within this regional system of support.
