The Center on PBIS Alternative Settings & Juvenile Justice (Alt/JJ) workgroup hosts a Community of Practice for practitioners, leaders, and researchers. Members share effective practices, strengthen PBIS implementation, and work together to improve outcomes and equity for youth and staff in non-traditional settings. Sessions are not recorded unless noted during meetings.
A single registration grants access to the complete annual series. All events are in Central time.
Target Settings
Non-traditional settings often include:
- Alternative classrooms and schools
- Day treatment and partial hospitalization programs
- Residential and therapeutic treatment facilities
- Juvenile justice settings and programs
- Custodial care, group care, and foster care programs
- Other specialized or non-traditional education settings
Shared Community Norms
Our Community of Practice follows shared commitments to foster a supportive and collaborative environment:
- Take Ownership & Be Present: Engage actively and be responsible for your learning. Ask questions; seek clarity, while allowing space for all to contribute. Cameras on, if feasible.
- Share Openly & Maintain Confidentiality: Bring successes, challenges, constraints, and diverse perspectives; we learn from all. Personal stories remain confidential to the group.
- Honor Each Other with Strengths-Based Language: Listen fully, speak respectfully, and assume positive intent. Give credit where due. Speak about youth, staff, and families constructively, maintaining focus on youth well-being, equity, and skill building.
- Act on Learning: Conclude with clear next steps when applicable, and follow through on commitments.
